Gracious and inviting, Traditional style evokes memories of the elegance and grand style of the 18th and 19th centuries. While looking back in time, Traditional remains fresh and relaxed. Traditional evokes feelings of simpler, better, more comfortable times. One should feel like, "I am home."
Decorating
Technique
Traditional style is typified by cherry wood with old and new furniture appearing side-by-side. Designs are rich and ornate with deep, dark colors. Softer colors can give traditional styles a more contemporary, relaxed look. Fabrics and textures should work well together, but not necessarily match. Accessories are kept to a minimum. Older traditional styles may use jewel tone colors such as emerald green, burgundy and navy blue with gold silver and polished brass accents. Antiques and antique reproductions may be used and can be key to a good traditional look. Traditional does not necessarily require a “dated” look.
